Project KP30: Racer86 x Compomotive – Tailor Made

The splits are gone and the hunt is off.

I’m a big fan of sourcing rare wheels, rebuilding then in your living room and making them work. But this time I wanted box-fresh, spanking new and untouched  Once I’d gotten over that decision the rest was easy with a call to Comopomotive: I wanted these MLs custom made to the exact specification for the KP: from the PCD (finally the correct 110mm for the car) to mm perfect staggered offsets and beautifully locating centre bore.

Like a Savile Row suite they fit perfectly and, in that one-off anthracite grey, give me all the nostalgic race car look I wanted.  It goes without saying they weigh almost nothing and the quality is stunning.  I’m over the moon with them.

The catalyst for these new wheels?  Well, at the end of last summer I passed the car to a highly recommended painter (while I was on holiday – much more fun than sanding and spraying) to re-paint the bonnet for me (after I’d been having some issues doing it myself and ran out of time) and came back to find the whole car had been resprayed….yep.  That happened. With me out of the country they just went ahead and did the whole car!  It’s never looked so good and, as sad as it is to admit, my home job just wasn’t cutting it.  It looks like glass now and really pops.

I’ve been giving the car a thorough once-over ahead of the 2013 show season and hopefully some sunshine use: from changing the manifold gaskets to rebuilding the brakes, it’s only just back on the ground for the first time in weeks!

Pic dump:  I’ve just picked up a 50mm f1.4 and I love it!

TA22 wood grain – says 4. Has 5.

Really need to make up a nice bracket for my TRD CDI module…

Now all it needs is driving!

Retro Cars x PVW X Compomotive Wheels

A couple of weeks back I headed over to Compomotive wheels with Si from Retro Cars and Elliot from PVW to shoot a feature.   I don’t usually post these things as they are going in the mag, but I thought I’d flash a bit of B-Roll because the place was AWESOME.  Make sure you check it out in Retro cars and PVW: British engineering alive and well!

Shooting Practice: Evo 9 FQ360 x CCW LM20

Curtain twitching and neighbourhood watch is not really my thing. However, when I noticed Jon (a guy I’d met at a couple of meets and know through my old man) lived round the corner from my new place, I thought it was only polite to drop in and say hi…especially as I know he’s got form:  a 450bhp FD, and a whistle clean S14 slammed on TEs to name just a few.

His latest, just finished (if these things are ever finished), toy is a rather special Evo 9 FQ360:  Dripping with carbon, slammed on Exe-TC fast road/track coilies and finished off with a set of just-in from the States custom CCW LM20 wheels – these things are a pretty big deal in the UK as nobody is really running them yet and I’m pretty sure it’s the only  evo in the UK on set.

So, just to be neighbourly, I thought we should go out for a shoot!

I’m really pleased how the pics came out and had a lot of fun on the shoot…just a shame photobucket kills them!

Winter Mode: Stage 2

Well, we are still having some pretty winter-esque weather in the Midlands, so I though it was time I took the Roadster out for a play.  I didn’t really want to risk my SSRs, so I threw on a pair of Black Racing Splits just in case!

After an hour of fun (and a narrow miss with the 5-0) I made it back without even a scratch!  The only downside was there was no one to take any action pics!  Still, more 7D practice and a good chance to crack out my new Grad Filters!

Players ‘09 20-09-09 Part #2

It’s pretty much been the summer of Air and Players was no different; T3D did well with the awards and it’s pretty clear why:

You’ll get no apologies for the hundreds of pics I’m posting of “that” Brasilia. Car of the year?

Big thanks to Elliot for hooking me up with a Wheel Whores T-Shirt. Loving the knocking shop!

PAPPED!

The trophies were awesome; some real time had been spent on the top prizes.

I got a sticker on my windscreen meaning I had won! Unfortunately, there were more stickers than awards so I never got a trophy Ha Ha!
