MX-5 OC National Rally 2009 12-09-09: Part #2

Ok, here is the second instalment of my Roadster Rally coverage:

The crew from Driftworks were down doing their thing, keeping the crowd entertained over the lunch break.

Dope cars. Dope setup.

The trade area was packed, selling everything from full on chassis kits to all those little bits of trim you just couldn’t find anywhere else.

Another pic of “that” MK3. I hope he’s getting coilovers and spacers for Chrismas.

Time for a quick fuel stop at Mallory’s fuel station.

So there you go: 20 years of the Roadster, one track and a load of sunshine! Awesome!

MX-5 OC National Rally 2009 12-09-09: Part #1

To be honest, I didn’t know there had been a national rally in 2008.  So to find out it was all happening this year at the Mallory Park Circuit, just 1/2 an hour from my house was ace.  The surprise didn’t end there, as this morning ,when I opened my curtains, it was a red hot, sunny day!

The OC had thrown on an extra special bash this year to celebrate 20 years of the Roadster and 15 years of the club. If the sunshine wasn’t enough to get you out, the  20 min sessions running all day on the track should have!

Here’s a few of my pics:

Yep, left the hard top on.Yep, it was hot.

Nicest MK3 all day.

Mallory is a cool little circuit and great for shooting. You can get really close to the track.

Yay. Longchamps.

Apart from the weather, you couldn’t pass off these pics as So Cal or Japan… The Uk Roadster scene has a lot to learn about stance and fitment. I’m just going to put it down to all the best cars being at JAE but seriously, so much 4×4 happening.  It’s a sports car, make it look like one!

The only other low MX. Props to you Sir.

Mallory had an Moto Xtrack off to one side. It took me about 10 mins to even notice it, but when I did it was certainly worth a watch!

Stay tuned for part 2!

Car Park Car Show

I headed over to a local bike meet (check out my post on RSM for more info) this week and met up with my mate Topi. Topi rolls a bad-ass 86 daily drifter. Seriously, this thing gets DOWN.

Another guy Jack knows randomly was in the same car park as us. This was good news as he drives a sweet E36 M3 slammed over some BBS splitties.

I have some awesome pics of the evenings industrial estate terrorism….. but, I probably shouldn’t post them here Ha Ha. All you need to know is: Corollas rule, Topi can pedal one like a hero and out of town industrial developments are our playground.

UK Builders doing it right!

Browsing my regular Forums over the last couple of weeks has turned up two builds that really blew me away with their awesomeness! It’s now really cold and wet and dark for 23 out of 24 hours so it’s good to see some fresh builds coming out of peoples garages.

The first was spotted on Driftworks and belongs to simo1. Build thread HERE

OK, I should mention this car is from the ROI – Edited for geographical correctness.

With a killer paint job, TRD suspension, front lip and a selection of wheels to die for this little KP already looks amazing and it’s not even finished!

The best part is, it’s still K-Series powered!

The second build I spotted was on Retro-Rides and belongs to hongkongphooey (I love forum nick-names!) Build thread HERE.

He has transformed his TA22, in what seems like a few days, into this show stopper which I can see every retro/ jap magazine in the business fighting to get a piece of, and rightly so.  Not only is this a stunning resto with some amazing modifications (more on that in a min) but the details are fantastic; Check out the BMW 7-Series light conversion and the digi-dash and gauges!

The icing on the cake is of course the lump filling the gap between the front struts; long gone is the T2 motor and in its place sits no less than an SR20 with enough trick bits on it to worry super-car owners!

I couldn’t make a UK builders thread without mentioning Stu’s Sapporo again. The car is now fresh out the paint shop and looking better than ever. Bags and Works, could there be any more win?

Time to get back in the garage I think!

Japanese Tuning Show (EDC & Time Attack Rd. 3) 01-06-08

Today was the second JTS show held at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire. The show it’s self is pretty small, with one area for club cars and one are for trade stands. The main focus of the day, of course, was Round 3 of the Time Attack series and the European Drift Championship.

There was a huge amount of hype surrounding this round of the EDC with it being the debut for Phil Morriston’s Driftworks 2JZ S15 and the entry of Team Orange’s Nobushige Kumakubo and Kazuhiro Tanak in their RWD Impreza’s.

Despite technical difficulties Kumakubo made it our for his battle with Phil who he had drawn first in qualifying.

It was a great battle to watch; Phil’s s15 is a total smoke machine and looked really planted and stable even when pulling big angles. It was Kumakubo who moved to the final 8 though, as Phil got a wheel on the grass.

BDC Licensing Day Silverstone 16-02-08

Well Today I was at Silverstone for the BDC Licensing/ Practice day. There were some sweet cars including an SR20 AE86 and some pretty sexy S and R bodies. The driving was pretty awesome too though I didn’t hang around to see who got licenses, so check out Driftworks for the results. Anyway, here are some pics;
