Retro Cars Magazine: COTY – Among Legends

It’s that time of year when all the mags round-up their years worth of feature cars and let the public vote for their favorite, and Retro Cars is no different.  I was stoked when I got my copy and my car had been nominated!   Even cooler than that is so has Yuta’s 240 (getting my vote!!!).    It was a great feature, beautifully shot by living legend Linhbergh (still one of my favorite ‘togs).

It’s a great mag this month and among a load of great writing, photography and feature cars is Ramon Portugal’s ’72 TE27.  It’s perfection with 20 valves and those TRD wheels.

Jan 2011 out now – go buy!

Daily Driven (Roadster: Sold)

Soooo, I sold the Roadster by accident and now my only car is the KP.

By accident?  Yeah, I’ve been toying with it for a while, but I’ve never found anything else that’s got me excited enough to want replace it with.  I was kinda getting on my own nerves talking about it, so just put it up for sale to see what happened…and it kinda sold in 48 hours.  So now I’m on the hunt for a new daily driver (any suggestions hit me up in the comments/ on Facebook).  Until then the KP will be on the daily grind!

Racer86.com & Cha Cha Racing Family: ありがとうございます

Today I received a mystery envelope…The post mark immediately gave away what it might be and I was excited to say the least!

I didn’t wait long to tear into the envelope; what I found was more than I ever expected!  I’ve been exchanging emails with Koji Iwasa from the Cha Cha Racing family now for a couple of days and he mentioned to me he was sending me one of his team stickers.  What I received was the following:

An amazing selection of stickers including rare vintage Tom’s racing stickers!  If that wasn’t enough Koji had included a copy of Nostalgic Hero, with his car in!

It goes without saying the team sticker will be taking pride of place on the rear screen of my car, just as it does on theirs!

I must say a huge thanks you to Koji and the Cha Cha Racing Family! I really appreciate their generosity!  This is exactly why I love old cars and car culture:  Two strangers, living thousands of miles apart, who speak a totally different languages, can share a passion for old Toyotas and racing cars – this is car life!

Koji:  Expect a package soon!

そんなにあなたの寛大さをありがとう、たくさんのステッカーや雑誌を私に送る!それは非常に感謝すぐに私はあなたに英国からの小包を送ることです!

Project KP30: Fire-ring on all cylinders?

No.  Well, not on number 2 anyway.  After changing the oil I ran the old girl up and out came a load of white smoke.  A compression test confirmed the worst, though it was making full compression, it was just leaking away on 1 and 2.  I know, I was gutted.  Luckily it did it on my drive and not at Santa Pod.

By some total fluke I was able to get gaskets on a Saturday – Mega Spares came through big-time on that one.  So it was a full-on day and now it’s running again!

Now I’ve just get to get some miles on it before the Japanese Performance shoot on Friday and more importantly the Retro Rides Gathering on the 8th!
