Project KP30: Fire-ring on all cylinders?

No.  Well, not on number 2 anyway.  After changing the oil I ran the old girl up and out came a load of white smoke.  A compression test confirmed the worst, though it was making full compression, it was just leaking away on 1 and 2.  I know, I was gutted.  Luckily it did it on my drive and not at Santa Pod.

By some total fluke I was able to get gaskets on a Saturday – Mega Spares came through big-time on that one.  So it was a full-on day and now it’s running again!

Now I’ve just get to get some miles on it before the Japanese Performance shoot on Friday and more importantly the Retro Rides Gathering on the 8th!

Retro Show – Santa Pod – 18-07-10 – Part #2

Turns out I dodged a bullet by not taking the KP…more on that later, but first some more pics of the weekend!

I love this KP.  It’s everything a retro should be; no frills, no £1000 wheels, no showy scene bits, no untouchable paint job; just everything you need to enjoy hooning around in an old car.  I remmember when cars were simple and fun like this….

It’s a shame it was just bunged in the public car park.

Retro Much?  No, but at least the owner parked it well out of the way…unlike the Mondeo enthusiasts group who had a stand.  Yeah, that happened.

Retro Show – Santa Pod – 18-07-10 – Part #1

Wow, it’s literally that time of year already:  Retro Show at the Pod; basically the penultimate show in my summer of automotive fun.  Despite the blackest most overcast sky I have ever seen the rain held off all weekend.  Unfortunately, I wussed on taking the KP (show cars hey.  I’ll be trailoring it next – loser.),racked up the Mazbo and rolled out.  More camping, more beer, more half-cooked meat later and…it was Sunday: Show day.  Pics?  OK:

Daily driver club – we do pink!

News just in: Rat-look is not cool.

Star-Sharks on a Capri?  Hell yeah! Mike, SELL THEM TO ME!

320iS – immaculate is an understatement.

Seth-o-matic – best wheels (well, trims) and car combo of the day for me.

Hux-rox (more of this car soon!)

Some Japanese car show somewhere – 11-07-10

I’m not sure what this show was called, or really even where it was.   John (with the Evo 9) found out about it so I tagged along on the promise of an ice cream and a chilled out day.

Not that it started chilled out…About a mile up the road the KP’s idle started skying.  I’d had the carbs off and being the eternal optimist had not re-set the idle.  Obviously I don’t carry tools; that’s asking for trouble so we “borrowed” a knife from the services which sorted the right out.  Convoy ON.

F1: Silverstone – Testing – 08-07-10

This post would have been ace about a week ago…Alas, it’s taken me this long to have chance to put the pics up.  Until I finish the time machine, this will have to do…

My buddy Ryan (off of Williams F1 fame) hooked me up with some tickets to the testing at Silverstone last week.  I’ve never seen an F1 car running, never mind experienced it first hand.  To say I was pretty excited was an understatement.  I know it’s cliché and a lot of you will already know this, but seriously, these things literally take physics and trample all over it.  And the noise.  Yeah that.  Amazing!

Watching the cars on TV, they sort of don’t seem real, but once you’ve experienced it, heard them popping and banging and smelt the fuel and brakes they take on a whole new dimension.  Anyway, I’ll stop going on as everyone already knows who’s won (except me, as I’m waiting to catch up with the race on I player!) so…

it was a bit, erm busy…

Half time skydiving

Carlos Sainz!

Then there was some GP2 action

AWESOME!

Massive thanks again to Ryan for the invite and tickets and Rog for lending me his 70-200mm L series lens (ridiculously nice bit of kit!).
