Project Roadster: SSRefurb MK2

Just for a change I thought I would do some painting…I sold the Borbets and am back running on my SSRs. They were looking a bit tired after a winter of DD so I gave them a paint and polish.

Ran my new polisher over the Mazda’s paint too using a special mix of T-cut and G3. Came out pretty good considering it’s the OG 19 year old paint.

Still need to re-paint the hardtop though. Might leave it a couple of weeks; I don’t think I can take anymore painting/ flatting/ polishing.

Project KP30: Race Cars On The Street. Respray Part #7

It’s done! It went straight through its MOT yesterday and before it had cooled down it received final flatting and polishing!

Quick pics for now unti I get chance to shoot some better ones!

Paint shot

Today has been awesome. I took it out for a good 2 hours just driving my favorite roads with the windows down; it does not get any better than that!

I also dialled in a little more camber at the front and swapped out the Oil Pump for a modified one for  some extra pressure.

Perks of the Job: Jaguar XF 2.7 TDV6

As some of you know I have been working at Jaguar Land Rover now for nearly 3 years now and in that time the perks have been fairly limited, well there hasn’t been any really, but that’s kind of the nature of my job…Then, this week,  I scored the loan of an 08 Jaguar XF.

The car in question was a 2.7 TDV6 with, what seemed to me (bearing in mind I think electric windows constitutes a high spec) lots of toys!

Now, I have to be honest and say this kind of car is not really my thing. I appreciate how awesome it is and it’s breadth of capability but, I like my cars to be edgy, hard work, noisy and generally quite unpleasant to drive; I’m a little strange like that.

Then it happened, everything about this car fell into place…I’d had a stressful day at work, it was late and wanted to get my 45mile commute home over with as soon as possible.

As I walked up to the car I popped the boot and threw in my bag. I jumped in, dropped the smart key in the glove box and pushed the throbbing engine start button. A few clicks of the touch screen and the temperature was being taken down to a refreshing 18 degrees while the Bowers and Wilkins stereo played one of the many media choices I had laid out for me. With the cruise on, I was home and soothed in what felt like a few minutes.

And there it is. This car just makes life more comfortable and distances easy. Suddenly everywhere felt a lot closer.

Despite this being the least powerful of the XF range, when set in Sport mode and flicking through the gears using your fingertips on the paddles, the car is surprisingly dynamic.

So that’s it I’m ruined. I have gone soft and I’m only 24! OK, it’s not that bad; a B-road blast in the Roadster cured the worst of it, but I’m not so sure how I’ll feel on my 90 mile-a-day motorway commute!

Project KP30: Running Project. Respray Part #6

So, as you may have gathered by now progress has been slooow, though I have has a couple of big days on it this weekend and it’s looking good!

The “to do” list is getting shorter!

The bodywork is all polished and finished now and all the engine bits are back in the freshly painted bay.  Fired her up first crack and took her for a bonnet-less open trumpet blast up the road; the less said about that the less jail time i’ll serve! I’m fairly sure the neighbours were impressed anyway.

Interior is in and repainted.

Boot is repainted.

It even has a face! All the lights are working in an MOT worthy style!

In the still-not-s0- good news, the bonnet and splitter are still reacting. A lot.  As you read this my good buddy Charlie is on his way back from South Wales with a litre of U-Pol’s finest Bar0Coat. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Project KP30: React n’ Roll’. Respray Part #5

Wow…this is dragging!

Well, I laid a couple more coats down and it’s back on it wheels, well some wheels!

I’ve been having loads of issues with the paint on the bonnet reacting. Nothing I did would fix it.

I finally gave in and took it back to bare metal and started again. This has put me back a good week. Humph.

In other news, I flatted and polished the drivers side quarter panel. Pretty pleased with how it turned out!

The MOT is booked for the 22nd May so fingers crossed i’ll have it back together. Still got to paint the bonnet and polish the rest of the body.

Time for some late nights….
